why does divorce cost so much?
Dear Aunt Anna,
I want to get a divorce but attorneys are so expensive. We do not have much and I just want a simple divorce and to be done with him. I think he will be fine with paying off the bills and providing for our children. He makes so much more money than I do. So why can't I just pay 500 dollars or less and be done with it?

Dear Frustrated,
Divorce is NOT a simple legal process. I understand your concern for paying for a divorce, but you will pay now for a legally correct divorce, or you will pay later with your efforts to enforce it. Just realize that the paperwork must be done correctly or your ex can escape his financial responsibility. Just as you expect to pay for plumbing done correctly, so you need to expect that legal services have no substitute either and are well worth the cost.
