Dear Aunt Anna:
I have worked my whole life and want more. I have a wife and two kids, a nice house and a huge mortgage. We never seem to get ahead financially and it costs more for my wife to work than what she is able to make. I am getting older and wonder if this is all there is to life. I have been thinking more and more of getting a divorce and starting over. What do you think?
Dan from Silverdale
Dear Dan,
Life is work. Even if you stay at home or just travel. Joy comes from the satisfaction of life and the little things that make you smile. Getting a divorce is a huge change. You will destroy the relationship you now have with your wife, and create lasting emotional damage to your children. So think about this well and hard. Find a mental health professional to discuss this and sort out the reasons you are so unsatisfied with your life. Sometimes a simple vacation, either alone or just with your wife, can make all the difference. And even though is may sound simple, an exercise program can also change how you feel. I did not hear anything in your note to me that indicated that a divorce will make anything better.
